The invention relates to a reconfigurable module for carrying out morphological operations for image processing. The module includes an operator unit comprising five inputs (A, B, C, D, E), three outputs (SO, S1, S), three adders/subtracters (add 1, add 2, add 3), and four logic units (mux A/B, mux D/E, mux E/S, mux ABC). The logic units (mux A/B, mux D/E, mux E/S, mux ABC) carry out different routings between the three adders/subtracters (add 1, add 2, add 3) so that the outputs (SO, S1, S) can deliver the results of base operations (addition, subtraction, minimum, maximum) made on the five inputs (A, B, C, D, E). The reconfigurable module is characterised by a reduced number of components and in that it enables different morphological operations having parameters that can be modified. The module can further be implemented in-line in order to carry out more complex morphological operations. The invention further relates to a method for implementing said reconfigurable module in order to determine, from an original image, an integral image, an eroded image, an expanded image, a remote image or projections along the lines and columns of the original image.
