The invention proceeds from an oven muffle having a basic body (10) made of aluminium and having a protective layer (12) which comprises aluminium oxide and is arranged on the basic body (10) made of aluminium. In order for an oven muffle of the type in question with a particularly high mechanical strength to be provided, it is proposed that the protective layer (12) has a thickness of at least 30 μm.
