PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a method for operating the same are provided to display a memory picture with low voltage lower than a current state of electronic paper.;CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display device has a structure in which a liquid material(3) is interposed between a pair of electrode substrate. The pair of electrode substrate forms an alignment layer with polymer material. A display is performed by varying the alignment of the liquid crystal material and the surface layer.
