PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting following vehicles and predicting collisions and a method for the same are provided to alleviate the collision impacts of passengers or drivers by transferring signals to a safety device for rear collision.;CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting following vehicles and predicting collisions(300) includes a vehicle electric control unit(ECU)(310), a vehicle power source(320), a control area network(CAN) driver(350), a direct current(DC)/DC 5V.3.3V line drop out(LDO)(330), a micro controller unit(MCU)(360), a complex programmable logic device(C.P.L.D)(340), laser diodes(LD)(380, 380',380''), and automatic power controlling(APC) line beam driver(370). The vehicle ECU commands an actuator to drive components based on the collision prediction and the state of a vehicle. The vehicle power source supplies DC power. The CAN driver is in connection with a CAN bus for CAN communication to the vehicle ECU. The DC/DC 5V.3.3V LDO is a 5V or 3.3V DC-DC converter equipped with a regulator which converts DC power. The MCU is a processor for controlling a vehicle electronic system and embeds a memory. The C.P.L.D is a logical device and functions as an MUX. The LDs outputs laser beam to detect following objects or vehicles. The APC line beam driver constantly maintains the laser output of the LDs.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
