The phenomenon of vehicle-guardrail collision accident is common on highways and always causes great damage and economic loss. This paper presents an advanced method for quickly finding the collision location and timely transmit alarm signals. ABAQUS is used to simulate the collision process and obtain original data. The root mean square value of acceleration is selected as the analysis index, and a cubic spline interpolation function is used to fit the relationship between acceleration RMS value and displacement along the guardrail, and the peak is defined as the exact collision location. Collision intensity is classified through a clustering algorithm into three grades: light, medium, and heavy. Wireless nodes are designed and the layout scheme are discussed for transmitting alarm signals to highway station. The proposed detection and alarming method of highway vehicle-guardrail collision accidents enriches the roadside accident detection means and has a wide application foreground with superior engineering value.
