PURPOSE: A HSP(HpHSF1) derived from Hansenula polymorpha is provided to improve thermal stress resistance and to produce ethanol.;CONSTITUTION: A nucleic acid encoding Hansenula polymorpha heat shock factor 1(HpHSF1) or a fragment polypeptide thereof has an amino acid sequence of sequence number 1. A host cell is transformed with a vector containing the nucleic acid. The host cell is yeast.
