PURPOSE: Platinum recovery from a three-way catalyst using hydrochloric acid leachate can be applied to processes for recovering elements from waste catalyst produced in chemical plants or oil refinery. CONSTITUTION: A method for recovering platinum from a vehicle purifier comprises the steps of: reducing a waste purifier with N2H4, leaching the waste purifier with an oxidizer selected among H2O2, NaBrO3, and NaClO3 at a leaching temperature of 70-90C and an oxidizer concentration of 5-15% to HCl, rinsing the purifier with HCI or H2O.
