PURPOSE: A composition containing Portulaca oleracea extract for preventing and treating diabetes and diabetes complication is provided to reduce blood glucose and insulin secretion. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating diabetes and diabetes complication contains Portulaca oleracea extract as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the Portulaca oleracea extract comprises: a step of pulverizing dried Portulaca oleracea and extracting with a solvent; a step of filtering the extract and centrifuging; and a step of filtering supernatant. The solvent is water including purified water, low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, or mixture solvent thereof. The composition is formulated by adding a carrier, excipient, or diluent. The composition is used in the form of powder, granule, capsule, pill, suspension, emulsion, syrup, aerosol, external use formulation or suppository.
