PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Dendropanax morbifera Lev. extract is provided to prevent or treat liver diseases and to remarkably suppress liver cancer cells without side effect. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating liver diseases contains Dendropanax morbifera Lev. branch or leaf extract. A method for preparing the extract comprises: a step of cutting Dendropanax morbifera Lev. branches or leaves and extracting in ethanol at 95-100 Deg. C. for 24-72 hours; a step of filtering the extract to prepare a primary filtered liquid; a step of cooling the primary filtered liquid at 40-60 Deg. C. and filtering to prepare a secondary filtered liquid; a step of concentrating the secondary filtered liquid to prepare a concentrate; a step of suspending the concentrate in water and fractioning with hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol to prepare a hexane, ethyl acetate, and butanol fraction; and a step of dissolving the hexane, ethyl acetate, or butanol fraction with methanol.
