The device (12) has a light guide (54) in form of a plate comprising a set of prisms (64, 66) for deflecting red rays (Rr) and blue rays (Rb) toward a display face (28). A series (S1) of prisms is oriented toward a colored LED (50) for deflecting the red rays emitted by the LED, and another series (S2) of prisms is oriented toward another colored LED (52) for deflecting the blue rays emitted by the LED. The prisms are distributed in zones of the light guide located facing electrodes (40) such that the rays issued from an upper face of the light guide are concentrated on the electrodes. An independent claim is also included for a timepiece, comprising an LCD device.
