The device (1) has a base support or plate (2) on which a stone to be sharpened (7) is mounted, and a sharpening guide i.e. guiding disk (4), carried by a guide support (8) and provided with indicators (25), where the plate is provided with legs (20). The guide is movable with respect to the guide support. An indexing and positioning unit determines indexing positions of the guide on the guide support, where the indexing positions correspond to the different indicators. The unit comprises a recess formed on a rear face of the guide and engaging with a protrusion situated on the guide support. An independent claim is also included for a method for sharpening a dental curette.
