The method involves fitting a laser scanner (3) in the vehicle. A measured value tuple is detected by the laser scanner in a scanner layer. The tuple has an angle value and a distance value. A computer, particularly a microcontroller is provided at or in a vehicle. The measured values are evaluated in a computing program with consideration of programmed fixed values, such as vehicle length or axle-base.
