The electronic cash barrier has light barrier units (8,9) that are arranged in a direction travel and spaced apart from each other. A piezo-alarm (11) is provided nearer to the light barrier (9). An optical and/or acoustic preliminary warning is provided when the light barrier unit (8) is interrupted by the unauthorized movement of a person. The warning and alarm are not provided when the light barrier (9) is interrupted before interruption of the light barrier (8).
