The method involves determining vehicle rating characteristic (FBK), which is provided externally to a vehicle depending on characteristic produced internally from the vehicle, where the characteristic represents usage history of a component of the vehicle. The characteristic is determined depending on variables that represent a possible ignition of an airbag, negative acceleration, an accident critical reading and/or measuring performance based on a park distance control sensor system or a spacing sensor system. An independent claim is also included for a rating device for determining vehicle rating characteristic.
