The cylinder (1) has a prestressing duct (2) formed in an outer surface of the cylinder, where the outer surface comprises a coating (3) applied by thermal spraying method. An additive body (5) is applied by laser and/or electron-beam welding and arranged at an intersection between the outer surface and the prestressing duct, where the coating is applied by thermal spraying method and partially covers the additive body. The additive body is made of wear and/or corrosion resistant material i.e. metal, and formed as wire material or strip material or solid material. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a cylinder for a printing machine.
