The method involves determining output characteristics based on first subset of input parameters (20) such as rotation speed (22) of engine, using associated function (34) described using discrete tuples (36) of first subset of the input parameters. The relationship between discrete tuples is determined based on second subset of input parameters such as environmental temperature (26) and ambient pressure (28). The individual output parameters are interpolated based on the relationship between input parameter and discrete tuples. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) computer program for determining nitrogen oxide concentration in exhaust gas of internal combustion engine of vehicle; and (2) control device for determining nitrogen oxide concentration in exhaust gas of internal combustion engine of vehicle.
