A second surface area (6) of the first metal layer (3) is arranged adjacent to the first surface area (5) after the application of the first metal material. An electroplating resistant medium (4) is associated with preventing the deposition of second metal material before the second metal material is deposited. Producing a decorative component, preferably a sanitary component, comprises applying a first metal material to form a first metal layer and another second metal material to form a second metal layer on a first surface area by electroplating deposition on a surface of a base body (1). A second surface area (6) of the first metal layer (3) is arranged adjacent to the first surface area (5) after the application of the first metal material. An electroplating resistant medium (4) is associated with preventing the deposition of the second metal material before the second metal material is deposited, which the second metal material is deposited on the first surface area, and the electroplating resistant medium is completely removed after the deposition of the second metal material. An independent claim is also included for the component, preferably die casting component, produced by the above method, comprising a surface layer exhibiting the first metal layer containing the first metal material and the second metal layer containing the second metal material, which partially covers the first metal layer and is directly applied on the first metal layer, for generating a labeling.
