The device has a steering shaft (1) rotatably supported in a jacket tube (2), where the jacket tube is received in a guide tube (3). The guide tube is coupled to a steering column body-mounted carrier (6) by a position unit (4), which comprises an operation lever (5). The position unit enables fixation of the jacket tube and the guide tube with respect to a longitudinal adjustable direction (7) and an angle and/or vertical adjustable direction (8). A clamping strip is positioned in a clamping area between a clamping adapter and a pressure piece.
