Metallurgical Investigation of the Gun Tube and Tube Jacket from a Soviet 122 mm Howitzer Model 1938 w/Carriage, FMAR 968 (Soviet)

摘要

The object of this U/A report was to conduct a comprehensive metallurgical examination of the gun tube and the tube jacket, and to compare the findings with domestic manufacturing practices of similar U.S. artillery components. A further objective of this investigation was to check the uniformity of the gun tube throughout its length, particularly with reference to microstructure, mechanical strength, and low temperature toughness of the steel.
