The camera apparatus has a sensor (4) and a time-intensity-modulated light source (3), and a light guide which is arranged so that portion of light pulse (7) from the light source is coupled with the light guide. The uncoupled light from the light guide is directed photosensitive elements of the sensor. A computing device is provided to acquire signals from the photosensitive elements to determine characteristics of camera (10) or to correct stored characteristic curve of the camera. An independent claim is included for method for calibrating three-dimensional camera apparatus.
