The device has a latent heat storage (6) made of phase change material (5). Discrete heat-conducting elements (3) e.g. heat conducting bar and heat conducting plate, are arranged in a region of battery single cells (2) or between the single cells. The heat storage is arranged outside or at an edge of a composite of the single cells. The heat-conducting elements conduct additional electric current. The heat storage is contacted to a cooling heat exchanger (7) in a heat conducting manner. The heat exchanger is connected to a side of a housing (4) opposite to the conducting elements.
