The battery has battery cells (2) that are electrically connected in series within cell housing (4) and comprised with positive and negative pole contacts. A cooling plate (10) is thermally contacted with the battery cells. The flat end pieces of the pole contacts of each pair of adjacent battery cells within a cell block (3) are arranged in parallel to the contacting cell block such that the pole contacts of different polarities are welded together. The cooling plate is contacted with welded end pieces.
