Composition comprises at least one chlorite and a polyvalent alcohol in aqueous or alcoholic-aqueous chlorine dioxide-containing solution without other chlorine oxide compounds, chlorates and oxidants, preferably peroxides. The composition has a pH value of = 4. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a solid material composition for preparing the composition by dissolving the solid material composition in water and/or alcohol; and (2) an agent for internal or external application for therapeutic, prophylactic, cosmetic or health-promoting functions in humans and animals, comprising the composition or the solid material composition.
