The method involves providing a digital combustion chamber pressure signal and filtering it with a low-pass filter having a cut-off frequency obtained around another digital combustion chamber pressure signal. The characterizing size of combustion in the cylinder is determined using latter digital combustion chamber pressure signal or third digital combustion chamber pressure signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) device for providing a filtered combustion chamber pressure signal for determining a characterizing size of combustion in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine; and (2) a computer program product with a program code for the execution of the filtered combustion chamber pressure signal providing method.
