In the note to the Editor by Bueno et al. [1] it is pointed out that in our recently published paper "A methodology for combustion detection in diesel engines through in-cylinder pressure derivative signal" [2] we have missed referencing and acknowledging the previous work presented in Ref. [3]. The work presented in Ref. [3] indeed appears to be in line with our investigations, and we thank the authors for bringing it to our attention. Of course, the phrase in Ref. [2] stating that "all methods in the literature are based on in-cylinder pressure measurement" should be corrected with a reference to [3], and also some parts of section 2 could be alleviated. Unfortunately, we were not aware of the aforementioned paper, which was published when both the bibliography review and experimental work of Ref. [2] were finished.Additionally, the novelty of Ref. [2] is based on the proposal of different alternatives for the estimation of different combustion parameters on the basis of signal processing techniques directly applied to the pressure derivative (which was measured using a simple current amplifier that can be found in basic electronic text books, e.g. [4], and which is similar to the one presented in Ref. [3]). The presented approach is shown to be a feasible alternative to the classical approach of calculating the heat release law (HRL) through the First Law analysis (which is used in Ref. [3], and as baseline in Ref. [2]).
