The method involves detecting profile line (P) of building material over distance with certain length. A maximum point having the smallest depth of the route, in profile line is determined. The linear mathematical function (F1) in the interval of the route by the maximum point is generated. The surface (A) between profile line and linear mathematical function is determined so as to determine surface roughness of building material. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) device for determining surface roughness of building material; and (2) computer program for determining surface roughness of building material.
