The arrangement (1) has a voltage converter (4) for supplying voltage of a load (2) from an energy storage device e.g. fuel cell, and including a controllable electronic switch (5) for switching load current. The switch includes controllable switching paths (5a, 5b) that are connected in parallel with an inverse diode (6). A reverse polarity protection circuit (8) selectively controls the switch based on forward voltage across the inverse diode. An inverting direct current (DC)/DC voltage converter (9) supplies voltage for operating the reverse polarity protection circuit. The inverting direct current (DC)/DC voltage converter is designed as a buck boost converter i.e. inverting buck boost converter. The switch is a MOSFET and/or an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT).
