The method involves lubricating and cooling the bearings (11) by the volumetric flow of lubricant which is maintained at moderate temperature by a heat exchanger and cooling medium. The volumetric flow of lubricant and cooling medium and the number of heat exchangers are varied based on power (P) of generator (7), temperatures of cooling medium and lubricant, temperature of windings (10) and lamination (9) of generator, and voltage (U), current (I) and speed (n) of the generator.
