The method involves cooling a gaseous cooling medium (11) in two cooling heat exchangers (12) using liquid cooling medium, where volumetric flow of the liquid cooling medium is varied when power, voltage, current and rotation speed of a generator (7) varies. Temperature of the liquid cooling medium is detected before cooling the gaseous cooling medium. Variation in volumetric flow is performed via a variable throttle (16) and a conveyor. The generator is provided in a hydroelectric power plant (1) and is driven by a turbine (2).
