In the heat exchanger for exchanging heat between a hot gas and a flow medium guided in tube heating surfaces, in particular steam generator for gas-cooled high-temperature reactors, consisting at least of a heat exchanger vessel (2) including a casing (2a), of tube bundles (11) arranged in the latter, of a hot gas line (3), connected to a gas inlet (2c) at one end of the heat exchanger casing vessel, including a gas guiding tube (4), of a gas outlet in the heat exchanger vessel, and of supply and discharge lines for the flow medium to be heated, a deflection by essentially 90 DEG taking place when the hot gas flows into the heat exchanger, it is provided for the purpose of reducing flow-induced vibrations that the gas guiding tube (4) of the hot gas line (3) ends laterally in an overlapping fashion (4a; 2c) in the heat exchanger casing (2a), and that there is arranged downstream of the gas inlet (2c) in the heat exchanger casing (2a) an annular duct (9) which is formed by the heat exchanger casing (2a), by the closure (2b) assigned to the end of the vessel and connected to the casing, and by a displacement member (8) which is arranged in the interior of the vessel (2) and opens in the direction of the tube heating surfaces (11).
