A method for modulating the clamping voltages of a three-phase three-phase motor with a non-sinusoidal electromotive characteristic is characterized in that the clamping voltages (u1, u2, u3) of the three-phase motor from an intermediate circuit voltage (UP) according to the equations with u0 ≤ UP / 2 by a higher-frequency pulse width modulation with a modulation function (m) as a function of the modulation angle (➇), which is defined as follows: m (ρ) = am (cose (ρ) - a3cose (3ρ)) with cose (x) = b0 (cos (x ) - b5cos (5x)) as an approximation of the non-sinusoidal EMF voltages of the three-phase motor with am = f (b0, b5) ≥ 1 a3 ≈ 1/6, where b0 and b5 are motor-specific parameters.
