Localization of primary tumors of metastasis tissue samples, comprises analyzing fully isolated metastasis tissue samples for the expression level of the genes CD302, PPWD1 and ABHD14B, and concluding the localization of the primary tumor in the patient, from the expression levels of the genes. Independent claims are included for: (1) a kit for performing the method for detection of the expression levels of the genes by quantitative PCR, comprising (a) means for the fabrication of tissue sections, e.g. cryostat for making frozen sections, slides, tweezers or brush, (b) guidance and resources (chemicals and reagents) for stained hematoxylin and eosin of the cryo-sections for histopathological assessment and differentiation of tumor tissue and normal tissue (current connective tissue, necrotic cells and adipose tissue), (c) means for the isolation of the tumor material e.g. the PALM for laser-based microdissection, (c) means (chemicals and reagents) and instructions for RNA isolation, and means (reagents, chemicals, buffers and/or enzymes and specific primer) having the sequence of the DNA or mRNA of the genes, amplified for the display of the expression levels of the three genes in the PCR; and (2) a kit for performing the method for an immunohistochemical detection of the gene products (proteins) that are encoded by the genes on tissue section of a metastasis, comprising (a)-(c), vessels with (optionally fluorescence labeled) antibodies (anti-CD302, anti-PPWD1 and anti-ABHD14B) against the gene product (protein) of the three genes, and means for carrying out the immunohistochemistry, such as secondary antibody, avidin, biotin, streptavidin alkaline phosphatase, chromogens, substrate buffer, levamisole or sodium azide buffer.
