A portable imaging detector (14) and a method for operating the portable imaging detector (14) are provided. The portable imaging detector (14) has a docking connector (100) with a plurality of docking connector contacts (122). The method includes the steps of: measuring a voltage on a first docking connector contact (122); Measuring resistance across a second, different pair of docking connector contacts (122); and determining, by means of the measured voltage and resistance values, whether the portable detector (14) is in a portable state or in a stationary state.
