The telematics system (10) has a main unit (16) configured for installation in motor vehicles. The main unit is provided for operating the telematics functions in motor vehicles. The main unit is coupled with an expansion module (18) through a module interface (22). The main unit additionally comprises an electrical connection medium (20), over which signals are interchangeable with other components of the telematics system. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an expansion module for a telematics system of a motor vehicle; (2) a method for operating a mobile data processing device, particularly a tablet personal computer; and (3) a computer program product.
