The power supply (1) has a switching element (4) for switching voltage resting against a voltage terminal (3). A power supply unit (5) converts the voltage resting against the voltage terminal into voltage applied to an electrical load. An electric line (8) is provided between the power supply unit and a load terminal (6). The switching element switches the voltage resting against the voltage terminal, to the power supply unit if the load is attached at the load terminal or disconnects the voltage from the power supply unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for supplying an electrical load.
