The method involves determining presence of an error condition e.g. incorrect stator windings and mechanical mistakes, in vehicle electric components of an electric machine (100). The determined error condition is provided in the vehicle electric components of the electric machine by utilizing a parameter identification algorithm i.e. pattern recognition algorithm. Parameter alteration in measured variables is recognized, and parameter is identified in selected operating modes of the electric machine. The electrical components are selected from an electromotor (101), an electrical high voltage system (102), a high voltage battery (103), an electrical power electronics stage (104), a direct current (DC) to DC converter (105), a loading unit (106) and a refrigerant compressor (107). An independent claim is also included for a device for diagnosing an electric machine of a vehicle.
