The telephone/camera i.e. radiation ionization detector (10), has a semiconductor image sensor (11) e.g. charge coupled device (CCD) sensor or complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor, with a computing device (12) for detecting an image. The semiconductor image sensor comprises a cover e.g. black adhesive strip, impermeable for a visible light on a light input side. The computing device is formed such that the computing device converts information in an image into a parameter characterizing the ionization radiation and transmits the parameter to an output device (13). The output device is formed as an LCD, a plasma display, a numerical display, an alphanumeric display or acoustic display. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting ionization radiation.
