The method involves maintaining a set of parts of a metal plate (2) i.e. automobile body stamping tool, temporarily assembled on both sides of a break line (3). A series of elongated grooves (5) is created and mounted on the break line, where the series of the grooves opens onto a face of the metal plate. A set of wedges (6) is engaged into the grooves. A locking of the metal plate parts is ensured relative to the wedges in a longitudinal direction of the wedges. The wedges are fixed with force on the grooves. An independent claim is also included for a metal plate.
