The device (12) has a hydraulic pump (14) including a driving chamber (44) and a compression chamber (31), where the compression chamber is in fluid communication with a working chamber (20) of a pneumatic motor (16). The drive chamber is in fluid communication with an enclosure (48) delimited by a membrane (50) that expands to reduce the volume of the enclosure. A battery (18) is placed between the pump and the motor whose output is in selective fluid communication with the compression chamber. The membrane is in heat exchange with a heat source (52) e.g. solar water heating device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an air-conditioning system (2) a method for producing cold gas.
