PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation catalyst which is highly active under a mild condition of a low temperature and a low hydrogen partial pressure and even under the presence of a sulfur compound, and to provided a hydrogenation method of an aromatic compound using the hydrogenation catalyst.;SOLUTION: A hydrogenation catalyst of an aromatic compound contains 50-95 mass% of nickel in terms of oxide (NiO), 0.5-25 mass% of molybdenum in terms of oxide (MoO3), and an inorganic oxide, a crystallite diameter of NiO is 3 nm or smaller, and a specific surface area is 150-600 m2/g. Also, in the hydrogenation method of the aromatic compound, the hydrogenation catalyst is used and the aromatic compound is hydrogenated under the condition that a reaction temperature is 50-400°C, a hydrogen partial pressure is 0.05-3 MPa, the ratio of [hydrogen (mol)]/[raw material aromatic compound (mol)] is 1-15, and a liquid space speed is 0.01-10 h-1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
