PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate an electrostatic capacitance of an electrophotographic photoreceptor with high accuracy.;SOLUTION: A characteristic evaluation method comprises: an electrostatic charging step of charging an electrophotographic photoreceptor 1 as a sample; a neutralizing step of neutralizing a photosensitive surface of the charged sample by exposure; a surface potential detecting step of detecting a surface potential of the sample; a charge amount detecting step of detecting a charge amount of the sample; and an electrostatic capacitance calculating step of calculating an electrostatic capacitance of the sample based on the surface potential and the detection results of the charge amount. In the electrostatic charging step, the sample is charged under a charging condition to generate a predetermined potential difference in the surface potential in a rotational period of the sample. In the electrostatic capacitance calculating step, the electrostatic capacitance is calculated based on the relationship between a plurality of surface potentials in the rotational period of the sample at any position of the sample and currents passing through the sample.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
