PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a limited number of color patches and to optimize the layout of the color patches.SOLUTION: A color chart creation apparatus is provided with means (110) for receiving input of document image data such as original data etc. of a printed matter; means (120) for extracting, as representative colors, plural frequently appearing colors from document image data; means (130) for determining the colors of color patches on the basis of the representative colors; means (140) for determining the positions where the color patches are arranged on the color chart, on the basis of the positions where the representative colors appear in the document image data; means (150) for arranging the color patches of the determined colors, at the positions determined on the color chart; and means (160) for outputting the created color chart.
