PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and accurately estimating an amount of load reduction on ultrasonic plastic processing where ultrasonic waves are superposed to a tool or a material to be processed.SOLUTION: The load estimation method is intended for use in ultrasonic plastic processing for shaping a material such as a metal, a resin, and others having a plastic deformation property, by applying ultrasonic vibration to the tool and/or the material to be processed while loading the processed material with the tool. The load estimation method includes: a first step of determining the relation between a load and a displacement during processing when no ultrasonic vibration is applied; a second step of determining a variation width of elastic load which arises when a displacement of twice the amplitude is applied, which is a variation width of the ultrasonic vibration to be superposed; a third step of determining an unloaded load by reducing the load by only the variation width of the elastic load, obtained in the second step, from the load obtained in the first step; and a fourth step of determining an average load of the load obtained in the first step and the load obtained in the third step.
