PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin and lightweight display device which has flexibility capable of being wound at least one time, preferably two or more times, or provide a substrate for such a display device.SOLUTION: A substrate for a flexible display device includes a flexible thin film having a thickness, and microstructured arrays in the flexible thin film. The flexible thin film is provided with a first surface and a second surface, and the second surface and the first surface are spaced by the thickness of the thin film. Each microstructure has a chamber formed so as to penetrate into the flexible thin film from the first surface, and the chamber has a recess at a part near the second surface.
