PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face image processing device, a face image processing method, an electronic still camera, a digital image processing device and a digital image processing method which can provide an expected image by automatically determining face expression.SOLUTION: A face image processing system comprises: image input means which detects a face image and inputs images of a plurality of persons in addition to the face image; and image selection means which uses an eye state where similarity between an image in a dictionary having a plurality of eye states previously created and an obtained eye image becomes the highest for each of inputted images from the image input means as a current eye state, determines whether each face of the persons faces the front or whether eyes are open or closed using the eye state, confirms a face state suitable for expected photographing one by one, and selects and outputs a face image whose evaluation value per image becomes the highest based on the evaluation value of face expression for each of the persons.
