PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a metal oxide porous body having mesopores and micropores, by which fine particles of crystalline metal oxides are aggregately formed, so that it is made possible to manufacture a metal oxide porous body having a pore structure in a mesopore region and a micropore region and capable of exhibiting sufficiently high gas purification performance. PSOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a metal oxide porous body having mesopores and micropores includes: a step of hydrolyzing salts of two or more metals selected from the group consisting of cerium, lanthanum, zirconium, manganese, chromium, silver, iron, titanium and silicon in a mixed solution comprising the metal salts, a nonionic surfactant comprising a long chain organic amine having a 12-16C hydrocarbon group, water and an organic solvent to obtain a metal oxide porous body precursor with the surfactant introduced into the pores; and a step of removing the surfactant from the porous body precursor to obtain a metal oxide porous body having mesopores and micropores.
