PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for press-working a headrest stay by which defective accuracy caused by excess margin is prevented, space required to perform it is enough to be small and which are high in productivity. PSOLUTION: In this method or this apparatus 20 for press-working the headrest stay, when performing the press working of recessed parts 14, 15, 16 by relatively advancing a roll punch holder 30 to the headrest stay 10, making each roll punch 37A, 37B, 37C, 37D of the roll punch train intersect the outer peripheral part of the headrest stay 10 in order from a roll punch having small amount of interference to the roll punch having large amount of interference and pressing the outer peripheral parts of each roll punch 37A, 37B, 37C, 37D in the prescribed places on the surface of the headrest stay, after each roll punch 37A, 37B, 37C, 37D presses the headrest stay 10 and passes through it the each roll punch turns back and again press the headrest stay 10 from the opposite direction.
