PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device which can control a flow of a molten metal and the movement of a foreign material in a state in which a metal strip is immersed in a molten metal bath, and to provide a method for manufacturing a hot-dipped metal strip by using the device.;SOLUTION: This control device has an electric-field-generating means and a magnetic-field-generating means which are immersed in the molten metal. The electric-field-generating means and the magnetic-field-generating means are arranged such that the Lorentz force is generated by an electric field and a magnetic field which are created by the means. The control device exerts the Lorentz force on the molten metal thereby to conduct either or both of (1) controlling the flow of the molten metal with the Lorentz force, and/or (2) controlling the movement of the foreign material with the electromagnetic Archimedes force which acts on the foreign material as a reverse force to the Lorentz force. The method for manufacturing the hot-dipped metal strip includes: placing the control device in the molten metal bath; and hot-dipping the metal strip, while controlling the flow of the molten metal and the movement of the foreign material into a suitable state for plating treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
