PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base oil for refrigerator oil for carbon dioxide refrigerant which has excellent stability and electric insulation, adequate compatibility with the refrigerant and exhibits sufficient lubricity without increasing the viscosity of the base oil in the case of being used with the carbon dioxide refrigerant, and the refrigerator oil for carbon dioxide refrigerant.;SOLUTION: Each of the base oil for refrigerator oil for carbon dioxide refrigerant and the refrigerator oil for carbon dioxide refrigerant contains a complete ester of a carboxylic acid satisfying conditions of (1) and (2) and a polyhydric alcohol. (1) The sum total MA1+MB of the percentage MA1 (unit; mol%) of a 14-22C branched fatty acid occupying in the fatty acid and the percentage MB (unit; mol%) of a 5-12C fatty acid occupying in the fatty acid is 90-100 mol%.
