PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective jig for construction of a steel pipe including an inner joint pipe and a construction method of the steel pipe, capable of surely and easily burying the steel pipe without deforming or damaging an insertion type joint pipe of the steel pipe.;SOLUTION: A protective jig 6 for the construction is used for a steel pipe 1 including an inner joint pipe 10 paired with an outer joint pipe to constitute an insertion type joint structure. As tensile force transmission means for transmitting tensile force given to an upper end 62 through a grip margin 62a to the inner joint pipe 10, a key 81 to be fitted to an engaging projection part 16 provided on an outer peripheral surface of a division piece 13 is used. On a plurality of parts facing the engaging projection part 16 on an inner wall surface of a cylindrical body 60, key grooves 82 for respectively storing keys 81 are provided.
